The reduced toll scheme has been announced by Shane Ross TD, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, and it will hopefully attract more drivers to switch to EVs whether these are PHEVs (Plug-in hybrid vehicle) BEVs (Battery electric vehicle). It will be administrated by TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland, ex NRA).
From Summer 2018 (exact date TBD) till 2022
What do I need to avail the discount ?
- Own a BEV or PHEV.
- Get an EV tag.
- Be one of the 50.000 first drivers to use this scheme.
** details on how to apply haven’t been released yet, we will update the page as information comes **
How much will I pay ?
You first need to get this EV tag. We don’t know what an EV tag will exactly and how much will it cost be but there are several providers, with different payment offers (pay as you go to heavy user plans) so look up what are the current solutions, we expect something similar :
Here is the price of all Irish tolls, for light vehicles whether these are diesel/petrol/hybrid (ICE) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or fully electric (BEV).
Is there a limit ?
Yes, there is a cap of € 500 per per year for private vehicles, and € 1.000 for commercial vehicles.
