Noticeable increase in new registrations for September, with plug-in vehicle registrations accounting for 36.66% of all new cars registered in Ireland – largely helped by Tesla resuming deliveries en masse.

Excluding imports, so far this year (January – September) there’s been a total of:

  • 14,513 battery-only electric vehicles (BEVs) registered, compared to 7,819 in the same period last year, and;
  • 7,439 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) registered, compared to 7,452 in the same period last year.

Summary

The top-3 registered new BEVs in September were:

  1. Tesla Model 3 472 (25.40%)
  2. Volkswagen ID.4 384 (20.67%)
  3. Kia Niro 138 (7.43%)

Of the 36.66% of new cars registered in September that were plug-in cars, it was comprised of:

  • BEV 1,858 (29.31%)
  • PHEV 466 (7.35%)

21.63% of all new plug-in car registrations so far (January – September) this year were plug-in, categorised as:

  • BEV 14,513 (14.30%)
  • PHEV 7,439 (7.33%)
